This page is about Monofilament yarn, isn’t that enough for you? Well, Mr Rigorous, then you are welcome to follow our Blog ARTIFICIAL TURF & YARN CLASSIFICATION AND APPLICATION, which will give a more systematic explanation of yarn.

What Is Monofilament Yarn?

The most popular type of yarn we use here at Tiger Lily Garden is the monofilament yarn which also called primary yarn. Because it comes out with a single filament which is different from multifilament. Monofilament yarn is composed of strong synthetic fibers that can be useful with or without having to be merged with other fibers. We have been successful at producing quality monofilament yarn for artificial grass for more than 10 years and we still maintain the same level of work ethic and standards.

Why Use Monofilament Yarn for Sports Grass?

Monofilament yarn is most commonly used in sports grasses such as football grass, tennis grass, track grass and multi-sport grass. So why is monofilament yarn used for these grasses and not others?

This is because sports surfaces require excellent shock absorption, resilience and anti-slip properties. This is why these surfaces cannot be filled with curly yarn alone; a suitable amount of sand and elastic granules is essential.

Monofilament yarn for football grass is available in Dark Green and Olive Green. The main options for fit are S shape yarn, Diamond Shape yarn and U shape Yarn. Spain monofilament yarn is not recommended for sports filed. It is very prone to splitting.

Friendly to the Environment & Our Feet

Tiger Lily Garden’s monofilament yarn grass is made of harmless materials. Protective against ultraviolet light, noise, and parasites. Its use has no negative effects on the environment, underground water sources, or the loam. High temperatures don’t affect its form or appearance and in cases of worn, torn parts are safe to touch since they don’t emit any dangerous substance.

Thanks to the resemblance with real grass, and considerable density, surfaces covered with our monofilament yarn prevent players from having frequent shocks in their ankles or joints.

Strong Resemblance & Resistance

Soccer fields are a center of attention and physical pressure challenging turf designers each time they produce artificial grass for these spaces. Monofilament yarn has resulted in the best choice until now, retaining a high resemblance with real grass. Monofilament yarns possess such strength that gives a solid resistance to the turf against both weather conditions and foot pressure. Not easily worn despite temperatures or intensity of activities happening over it. Our monofilament yarn maintains its sharp colours even under intensive UV rays.

Landscaping Grass

Aside from its usage in soccer fields, monofilament yarn finds use in landscaping. Monofilament fibers are straight but if undertaken through several processes the yarn takes different shapes. For more than 10 years we have been producing high-quality artificial grass for our customer’s gardens enriching their landscapes with aesthetic green grass. Aside from having green spaces all the time you will save water too. There are several advantages to using monofilament yarn for your landscapes:

  1. Evergreen spaces with a variety of tone colours;
  2. Longer lifetime. Grass made out of monofilament yarn lasts longer than usual artificial grass;
  3. Lean surfaces with no distortions;
  4. Variety of colours, from dark green to lemon green, olive green and light green, to suit your different colour preferences;
  5. Different shapes are designed to suit different scenarios, from soft to upright, giving the lawn a different soul.

What is the Material Used in Monofilament Yarn for  Artificial Grass?

artificial grass manufacturer in China
  • PE

    The main material of monofilament yarn for artificial grass is PE because it is softer,  more flexible and has better wearable ability compare to the other materials. What’s more, the melting point of PE is roughly 120℃-135℃ which makes it performs very well even under extremely hot weather.

  • Colour Masterbatch

    The second material we used in the monofilament yarn for artificial grass is the colour masterbatch. That is the reason why artificial grass appears in various colours: Dark green, lime green, olive green, apple green, yellow, and red……

  • UV Additives

    And in order to keep the monofilament yarn last long, some additives are very necessary. The high-quality UV additive makes it keep fresh under the sunshine; antioxidant additives slow down the ageing progress of the plastic; POE makes the monofilament yarn spring back faster when the artificial grass is treaded……..etc.

How is Monofilament Yarn  Produced?

  • The making of these fibers starts with the melting of the polymerized material.
  • Aside from melting, other techniques like the use of dissolution in a solvent can be used to turn the material into a liquid ready to form the monofilaments.
  • The liquid mass is passed through the holes of spinnerets, after which is left to strengthen and form rods.
  • Through the process of spinning these rods turn into filaments. Spinning is a process similar to the one silkworms and spiders use when producing silken threads.
  • The difference in the size of the spinneret holes determines the filament’s strength. At Tiger Lily Garden our experts make sure the holes are wide enough to produce filaments with suitable strength to function on their own; these filaments are what are called monofilaments.

Monofilaments are used in different products, starting from fishing lines and gillnets to various textiles, but most importantly, they play a major role in artificial grass production. Artificial fiber has replaced the use of natural fiber in many applications. Here we can mention as major fibers: Polypropylene and Polyester. These fibers are used to produce synthetic polymer monofilament filaments adequate to fully function on themselves having the proper resistance. Asia is one of the leading markets for polyester yarn and fiber production, which has great economical benefits.

More on the Production Process

The following is a process we do at Tiger Lily Garden every day with the same care and attention to create the perfect artificial grass for our customers.

This process, at the end of which we get numerous polymeric strands ready to be turned into completed products, is called extrusion. To produce the monofilament yarn, an amount of melted polymer needs to go through spinneret holes. The process seems similar to the one used for fibrillated yarn production, but the tools used are slightly different in shape, size, and functionality.

Good quality monofilament yarns can be produced from various thermoplastic polymers. We mention here, that high molecular weight polypropylene is more frequently used because of its low cost, strength and facility during the extrusion process. The material is melted at an average temperature of 190 °C. Higher temperatures are used when more liquidity is required. Polypropylene has lower melting points compared to other materials.

Why Chose Tiger Lily Garden as Your Yarn Supplier?

Why Is the Right Monofilament Yarn Important?

Chinese artificial grass yarn factory

Importance for Sports

The importance of the monofilament yarn we should start from the application:

For the sports grass, it requires joint protection and high wear-resisting property. So the fibers can not be broken after frequent use.

So for the yarn choice, the diamond shape is a good option and the recommended Dtex is around 8000Dtex ~12000Dtex. However, only focusing on those 2 items is not enough. The secret of high-quality monofilament yarn lies in the formula and the tensile strength. Tiger Lily garden knows all those key points after decades of experience. We are a reliable monofilament yarn manufacturer in China.

Importance for Landscaping

For the monofilament yarn for landscaping, it requires even more for wide applications. It has to be soft, natural, and low shine, with good rebound resilience and also high UV-resistance ability. If we can make it cool yarn that’s even better.

There are many yarn shapes for the landscaping monofilament yarn such as C shape, W shape, V shape, M Shape, stem shape, and S shape…..It’s very hard to tell which shape is better than the others, they are designed for different requirements.

For example, the V shape has the very good stand-up ability, it looks great after 3~5 years but it is a little stiff; the Flat shape and C shape are softer but it will reflect the sunlight; the W shape and seven stems are looks very natural, we should pay more attention to it’s UV resistance ability…

Green hands are not good for any industry. We paid our experience by time, money and energy. We know every detail from production to load which makes you worry-free.

Company Value

We believe quality lies in the process. We prototype and iterate. We produce and improve. We Only Produce Easy Tufting Yarn.

We usual control 4KG /bobbin  100 bobbins/pallte and  44 pallets for a 40HQ roughly 18 tons 1X40HQ.

1X40 HQ is our basic loading quantity. But Tiger Lily Garden understands those uncertain parts during your purchasing. If you want to have a trial for a 1X20ft contaiiner, we can totally understand and support that.

If only making a yarn for 1X40 HQ container is very fast 7~10 days should be no problem. But we need to arrange the schedule ,purchaing raw material….So usually it takes around 3~4 weeks.

We can do 5kg/Bobbin. But please trust, that is not a very good choice for the shape of the bobbins and not easy to tuft. What’s more ,if we make each bobbin bigger than usual the loading quantity will be less!

In terms of material, PE and PP are the two most common types of yarn used in Artificial Grass; in terms of pattern, C, Diamond, Flat and S are the top selling yarns; C is mainly used in landscape grass and Diamond Shape is mainly used in sports grass.

Flat Yarn refers to a type of yarn that is cut open and the shape of the yarn as seen under a microscope is the type of yarn. Depending on the shape of the yarn, there are different shapes such as C, W, M and so on. The Flat Shape is called flat yarn because the yarn is flat and has no undulation.

LLDPE is the main material used for Artificial Grass because it is ductile, has good ageing resistance, has bright colours and is harmless to humans; PP is harder, less resistant to ageing and slightly less wear resistant; Nylon is less resistant to knocks and is expensive.

Firstly, sand, which has a shock-absorbing, weight-adding and pedalling effect, as well as a cooling effect in summer.

For sports grass, you can also add elastic granules such as EPDM or black rubber granules.
